1200 W. Saratoga St
10/10/03 Herb makes weekly visits W. Saratoga St to drop food for the cats
and check with the two retired residents who live one block apart.
Herb arrived at 6:30 PM to Mrs. Thykiel Barnes' alley and lawn courtyard behind Carrollton St.
She called out saying one of the cats was dragging her hind legs.
The white young cat with the calico face and back, "Thiel", had been in fine condition at 2:30 PM.
but by 4:30, she was badly injured.
Mrs. Barnes and Herb used a flash light to find Thiel
by a fence. Herb threw a net over Thiel and pushed her into a carrier.
He immediate drove to Animal Emergency Center near Loch Raven.
Over-night xrays and monitoring revealed an L7 subluxation.
This is displacement of the
base pelvis vertebrae. She could be paralyzed for life.
She was either glanced by an autmobile or had her tail held while getting hit with a club.
10/11/03 Transfered on Saturday A.M. to
Academy Animal Hospital saw a little improvement. On Sunday, our girl was grooming herself
although she needed help with bladder expression. By Tuesday, she was attempting to stand.
10/17/03 Herb's arrival at Mrs. Barness lawn courtyard found a tame gray boy with wicked chest congestion.
The boy was sneezing and wheezing. Herb took him home then admitted him to Academy Animal Hospital
on 10/18/03. The nice boy was about five years old and living outdoors for a long time.
He had a strong positive for FIV and was euthanized by Dr. Lewis.
11/01/04 "Thiel" remained with Dr. Lewis for recuperation and on this date was able to walk
but dragging her right rear leg. Her tail remained limp but with good enervation and blood supply.
Thiel was transferred today to Dianna Glass of Fur-gotten Friends.
We spent over $1100 on Thiels' medicare care.
01/18/04 Dianna says Thiel has adjusted well. She is walking but still dragging the leg.
Her tail is healing although full use is unlikley.
