ANNUAL MEMBERS' MEETING:
At The Cafe Brio/One World Cafe 904 S Charles St, we elected our Board Of Directors from the membership base:
LeSales Dunworth, Secretary; Herb Morrison, Treasurer; Brenda Oals; Dick Wilkinson; Ray Wills.
Annual Report to follow in mail to all subscribed members.
Dundalk Turners Station:
8/23/02 Herb picked up a six-week kitten that Emmy Rodriguez had retrieved from under her house. The gray baby is eating well and is frisky but has a broken frontleg and a neurological deficiency. Foster mom Karen Ganjon is taking the baby to the vet on 8/24/02.
Fells Point Baltimore City:
Three young adult cats and litter of kittens living on a weed lot on Caroline St.
Two kittens remaining in August 2002.
Trapped one gray/white male. TTVARM and released. He is daily present.
Trapped one 14 week orange kitten.
He was neuter and adopted 8/8/02 by Van & Danyelle Rosenbrough & children in Edmondson Village.
The second kitten gray long fur disappeared on Friday 16th when the lot was mown.
Several adults and kittens living on Bank St near Broadway. We are also feeding these daily but have not trapped one. Presently, includes three slate gray adults and three slate kittens. Also, a black youngster. An 8 week is living between two buildings with an iron gate. The whole group takes daily refuge there.
Two adults were traffic killed simultaneously this month on Bank St. The nice lady in townhouse placed their bodies in a box and called Animal Control. The lady has her own cats' litter in the house. She happily accepted an orphaned kitten for the nursing mother. The kitten was found by staff of Michael Exler, DDS on Eastern Ave.
Staff member, Robin, transported the week old kitten to the lady upon our instructions. The kitten died a week later by failure to thrive.
DRUID HILL PARK NEIGHBORHOOD:
We are helping rescue lady Charlene Williams on McCullough St. who operates a very nice day care center in her home. Her eight backyard cats are well fed but unaltered until we arrived. At the Williams' instructions, Herb entered an abandoned house and took three kittens from the second floor with an open deck door. The kittens were about two weeks and well nourished. Members, Sandy & Ben Kosmocheski, are KMR feeding them.
The mother was resistant to trapping. However, we have trapped and TTVARM four of the group including a six month black girl 8/1/02 and 8/7/02. Her black littermate disappeared mid August. Charlene says youngster often disappear. Last year, two kittens were mauled and killed in the yard by dogs released by men.
We will TTVARM the remaining family members for Charlene.
CLINTON ST:
Lebanon Farm Chemical colony. Our nine managed cats are surviving well. Herb picked-up a tabby youngster abandoned at the site. She received complete vet care 8/12/02 and is in foster care with Herb.
Our first cat trapped and neutered at the site in August 2000
remains healthy. This is DLH Gray FLUFFY who has taken a lone
bachelor 's life.
PETERBILT:
8/21/02 Picked up the tame orange girl abandoned on parking lot in August. The lot is locked at night and she has been safe. She always arrived nightly for meals. Have a home ready for her now with Barbara Lowe in Highlandtown who adopted our "Alta" cat from the same vicinity.
The white Turkish van girl is roaming free in that large industrial
area. Had appeared nightly for meals until orange girl arrived.
Needs to be spayed and possibly released. She may not succeed
against the resident foxes however. She now has a Turkish Van
companion previously unseen.
Big orange male was trapped at Peterbilt this month. He had a bad wound on neck with skin torn off by fox attack. He was FIV positive and was euthanized on 8/5/02.
Big DLM gray remains daily at the unused railroad tracks. Will be TTVARM.
PONCA ST:
Started this month with the two kittens and young adults foraging at the Royal Farm Stores dumpster. Group is now stable with daily meals. The two kittens are about 12 weeks. Obtained permission from Tipton Trucking to mange the colony on property.
Need to TTVARM the whole group.
HOLABIRD AVE:
The trap resistant white saddle back mother brought out her new litter this month.
All were living inside the fenced parking lot for maintenance vehicles. Employees probably took home three of four kittens including a black/white fluffy and a calico.
Possibly an orange one remaining who ventures out at night. Black/white father is missing but often re-appears. The small mother is in residence several years.
Found a home for an O'Donnell Heights public housing kittens this month. Foster mom, Patricia Capparella, gave a kitten to Sharon Bean.
PIKESVILLE:
Our four rescued feral kittens were transferred from foster Kristen Sorenson to Karen Ganjun. Had a brief episode of diarrhea following expired can food from Super Fresh.
Two are becoming tame. Two remain more feral. Their mother was tame and adopted
7/26/02 to newspaper respondent and animal lover, Angie Langford.
WILKINS AVE:
Dog & Cat rescuer, Mrs. Annie Sessa, nursed an ophaned kitten to health. Newpaper respondent, Shanika Gray, visited Annie graciously and took home her new family member.
